Need to uninstall PostScript fonts and install TrueType instead?

For System stability it is important never to have two font formats of the same typeface installed at the same time! So the short answer is; delete the OTF fonts that get placed in the Operating Systems by our Installers, then manually install the TTF fonts that are included with the product Folder.

The more comprehensive answer and the how-to follows:

We supply Sassoon fonts in 'OpenType' format. OpenType format has two flavours, as indicated by their file type extension .otf and ttf.

OpenType-PostScript (.OTF)
as PostScript outlines more faithful to the Type Designers' intended shapes. This format suits the large scaling of font sizes used in Publishing and Advertising, adhering as closley as possible to traditional typeface letterforms. It does not deliver the best on-screen display, because that is not the final intended use. Print output is the goal. Standard delivery and installation of Sassoon fonts is in OpenType-PostScript format (.otf).

OpenType-TrueType (.TTF)
Has nearly-faithfull outlines and is more suited to Business use for word processing, letters, till receipts and where output speed is required. Display and output of glyphs can differ from PostScript outlines, due to the TrueType glyph 'hinting' process, in an effort to make pleasing shapes at various sizes and on various devices, rather than slavishly reflecting the Designer's orignial outlines. TrueType is suitable for most non-exacting purposes.

Both file types are common and should be considered industry standards, and they can be distributed between both Macintosh and Windows systems. The TrueType format is still the more common format due to its inclusion in Microsoft software as the default font format.
So some applications are built to use only TrueType fonts. For this reason, all Sassoon font packages come with the both OpenType-PostScript (OTF) AND OpenType-TrueType (TTF) format. If one format gets installed but the other is actually required, the wrong format MUST be deleted, then the other format can be manually installed if required instead.
See "If TrueType fonts are required" below!

Before October 2014
For arbitrary or unknown reasons, Microsoft insist on having a DSIG (Digitally Signature) code in OpenType-TrueType fonts - otherwise OpenType 'features' built into fonts are not accessible in applications. For example the alternative letters 'feature' included in all Sassoon fonts. TrueType fonts supplied by us for Mac OS prior to 25th October 2014, and TrueType fonts supplied for Windows prior to 28th October 2014 did not have a DSIG. This means that no alternative letters features and no joining features work in Sassoon fonts - even though the features are built-in.

Alternative letters feature in OpenType-PostScript (.otf) format should be accessible in most software. Where features are not available, or working, then the TrueType format should be used.

After October 2014
Only TrueType fonts supplied supplied by us after these dates were Digitally Signed allowing activation of 'Contextual Alternates' (in joining fonts), and 'Stylistic Sets' (in joining and non-joining separate letter fonts).

If TrueType fonts are required
To use OpenType-TrueType format (.ttf), for this example, let's assume that our Installer application has been used to install all the files of that Product package, resulting in (.otf) fonts being installed in the Operating System and other components, including TrueType fonts, copied to a Sassoon Folder on your Hard Disk. YOU MUST remove only the installed .otf font file(s) as described below, before installing .ttf fonts of the same name. Both formats must NEVER be installed on the same computer at the same time.

WINDOWS removal of fonts
1. Exit all running applications that have a font selection menu.
2. On Windows XP, Vista, 7 click: Start
or
On Windows 8 click: Windows Key and X key together
3. Click Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization: Fonts
4. All installed fonts are listed. Right-click on the necessary fonts for removal.
5. Click Delete.
6. IMPORTANT: Restart the computer. This is necessary because the System thinks the OTF font is still installed. Installing the same typeface name in a different font format without a Restart will cause problems for the System and your documents!

If the font failed to be deleted or an error message appears, use the
RegEdit method...

MAC OS removal of fonts
1. Quit all running applications that have a font selection menu.
2. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Library/Fonts
3. Right-click on the necessary fonts for removal.
4. Click 'Move to Trash'.
5. Empty Trash.
6. IMPORTANT: Restart the computer. This is necessary because the System thinks the OTF font is still installed. Installing the same typeface name in a different font format without a Restart will cause problems for the System and your documents!

INSTALL TRUETYPE FONTS
When a Sassoon product installer is used it places a Folder on the Hard Disk containing Licence Agreement document, Help files (PDFs) and a copy of the fonts in both formats (OTF and TTF) for just such an occasion as this.

To install TrueType fonts, navigate via the Desktop to the Sassoon Folder's TT fonts.

1. Follow this path:
On Windows...
C:\Program Files(x86)\Sassoon Folder\TT fonts

On Mac OS...
Macintosh HD/Applications/Sassoon Folder/TT fonts

2. Open the TT fonts Folder
3. Double-click the TrueType font(s) you require. A small preview of the font appears.
(In Windows only, a "Use Shortcut" option installs a Shortcut instead of moving the font).
4. Press the 'Install font' button.
5. Fonts are now ready for use in applications.
